EAST ANGLIA BMX RACE SUMMER SERIES, CODHAM PARK, 9.5.10

118 riders from all over East Anglia and beyond headed over to Codham Park Bmx Club for Round 2 of the East Anglia Bmx Race Summer Series. As the first riders started to arrive this was more like a winter meeting with the cold wind and rain, once the racing started the sun very kindly decided to make an appearance. Codham Parks demanding 385 meter international standard track would certainly keep the riders warm. First on the start gate was the pocket rockets, the male 6& under class. Disappointingly only 3 riders in this class but that didn’t stop these youngsters from giving it there all, it’s amazing these little guys even make it around this Bmx track. Elliot Bowyer from Milton Keynes took the honours with four wins, with Jake Jones from Norwich in 2nd and another Milton Keynes rider Adam Barrass in 3rd. Next up was the male 7 years, Sam Stonebridge from Peterborough came home in 1st, Braintree’s Luke Shriever 2nd, and Peterborough’s Charlie Foster 3rd. Novice rider Hayden Gladwell from Ipswich got 8th in the A final.

Male 8s, Braintree riders Joe Read-Millard and Sydney Allen got the 1st and 2nd places, Alex Leach 3rd and novice rider Coby Newman from Ipswich took a well deserved 4th. Braintree riders Oliver Rowe and Charlie O’Grady again took the top two places in the male 9s, with Royston’s Ted Dalleywater following close behind in 3rd.

Male 10s, Riding up an age group, 8 year old Josh Peters from Codham Park and riding for EA Pure Racing, took the win with Royston riders Myles Fisher 2nd and Daniel Blanche 3rd. Male 11s, another EA Pure race team member riding up a class, was Ethan Vernon, remaining unbeaten all day, with Aaron Dalleywater also from Royston in 2nd and Braintree’s Joshua Legrove taking 3rd spot.

Ten year old George Moret remained unbeaten all day and took the win in the male 12s. Burnham-On-Sea rider Lauren Stack decided to mix it with the boys and took a very respectable 2nd place, with Peterborough’s Callum Raven coming home in 3rd. Braintree’s Daragh Ward took the honours in the Male 13s, while 2nd place went to Milton Keynes rider Maximilian Salthouse and 3rd to Jake Newman from Ipswich.

In a class of his own all day, Codham Parks Taylor Andrews took the win in the male 14s, with Braintree’s Shane Pavitt in 2nd and followed by Peterborough’s Thomas Drinkwater for 3rd.The male 15s and 16s were combined, Braintree’s Chris Potter never lost a race all day, Ryan Leach (15s) from Peterborough 2nd and Joe Sawyer (15s) from Milton Keynes taking 3rd spot.The fastest group of the day, the male 17-25 years saw factory Redline rider Alan Hill from Norwich taking the win, followed by Jon Lillingstone from Ipswich in 2nd and EA Pure rider Arran Shrosbree from Peterborough close behind for 3rd.

In the Masters class, remaining unbeaten throughout the day, Hardcore Hobbies rider Jason Mills from Norwich took the win, with Royston’s Adam Richards 2nd, Braintree’s Stuart Dixon 3rd and Rebecca Vaughan coming home in a very respectable 6th. In the Female 7-8s, Peterborough’s Mollie Foster was in a class of her own taking the win, with Royston’s Ella Tomsett and Norwich’s Morgan Dorrell taking the 2nd and 3rd places.
The Female 15-16 year class was combined with the female 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14s. The winner was Peterborough’s Katie Plumb (11-12) with Braintree riders Kelsey Dixon (13-14) 2nd, Natalie Miller 3rd and 8 year old Anja Moret (9-10) 6th in only her second regional race. In the slightly larger 24” wheel categories, the cruiser classes, Redlines Abi Hill from Norwich took the win in the Ladies 25+. Braintree’s Oliver Cutmore took the win in the 17-29s, the 35-39 was won by Keith Bryceland from Barking and Dagenham and Peterborough’s Paul Maidment unbeaten all day took the honours in the 40-44s.

The next event on the East Anglia Bmx race calendar is the EA v South inter regional at Barking and Dagenham on the 23rd May with well over 300 riders expected. The return leg of this inter-regional will be a week later on the 30th May at Braintree Bmx Club ready for the 500+ riders participating in the British Cycling Bmx National Series, Rounds 5 & 6 at Braintree on the 12/13th June.
